WEREWOLF HEAlTH GUIDE
A guide to the lifespan health of werewolves as well as common alignments that can attack a werewolf and cause them to become sick. Some of these are traditional and some not so much. This guide is forever being updated and more info added. If you have suggestions for more things to add please post them in the suggestions.
Aging
As mentioned in the werewolf guide, the werewolves on Blood Oath are immortal. Those that are bitten stop aging when they were bitten. So if bitten at five years old, they will remain that age until they are killed or die from a disease. However, if a sick and dying person is bitten the healing attributes of the werewolf gene will heal them to an extent and keep them from dying, but it will not make them as strong as someone bitten young. Even though the elder maybe immortal, they're still fragile and feeble for the most part, so immortal does come at a price in some cases.
Most borns will stop aging anywhere from 15 years of age to 50 years of age with the average being in the twenties and early thirties. They will never look older from when they stop aging and can live until killed by a natural cause or from injuries.
Healing
A werewolf heals extremely fast as opposed to a human. This does not mean rapid healing where steam rises and the wounds disappear. In reality this means instead of months for a broken bone, the wolf might have to deal with it for a bit longer than a month, and stitches would only stay in for around five days instead of a week or two week. They heal fast, but this does not mean they are masters of healing. They can still get infections and the more serious the wounds, the more likely are they to get infections. This is due to their bodies are already fighting to keep their body young and fit to survive as well as to heal, so infections are more likely to happen without proper care.
The healing of the curse also only stretches so far. While it can save you from death row and some deadly diseases, the body can only be brought back so far. Humans that are bitten and suffer from stage four cancer or other ailments of the body will find themselves better, but never back to that youthful self. It is both a blessing and a curse as it can keep the human from death, but also prolong suffering if they're already too far for the curse to heal them. Bittens also don't heal as fast as a born werewolf on average because their body was born human and didn't already have the biological advantage. However, they would be more able to fight infections because they have been exposed to them and their immune system would have fought them off before without the healing increase of the bite.
Bittens'
For the first year of being a werewolf after being bitten they must stay with a werewolf that was born with the curse. This is to keep them from going insane from the changes to their body and DNA. The change is quite painful the first time and can kill them if the body does not take to the virus. The mutation of the virus (curse) that is in the saliva of the werewolf is meant to alter the chromosomes of the human changing them into another being. Without staying near a born werewolf or a pack of them, they can lose themselves to the curse and be stuck in feral form forever or risk slow degradation of the mind and slip into insanity.
Another thing to note about bittens is they cannot make other bittens. They are not a carrier of the virus like the born werewolves, but instead are infected.
Mating with Non-Werewolves
Werewolves rarely take on a human as a mate or lover. The reasons are because the human will die, age without them, or they will be forced to turn them and hope they survive both the change as well as the first year. If they choose to leave their lover a human and let them live out their life, the werewolf will find children not possible because their chromosomes are not compatible. The pregnancy would end in a still birth, or a miscarriage. If by a small 10% change the baby does survive the child will have issues as it will never be able to reach feral form since it is not half wolf, but a quarter and have around a 95% chance of being infertile with a 60% chance of never making it to adulthood. These children are not werewolves as they are not true ones. Often they are more human than wolf, but the virus of the werewolf ends up killing them from the inside as it tries to fight for dominance in their 75% human body and ends up killing them very slowly.
New Moon versus Full Moon
While the werewolves, bitten or not, must shift during the full moon. If not this could cause them to go insane temporarily or have them lose a bit of their connection to the real world. The full moon allows them to balance out the other part of them that is the wolf as well as to strength them. During the time of the full moon, the werewolf is at their strongest. Their healing is at its best and for that reason it is typically during this time that the packs see more rank challenges to keep their numbers high without having a pack member out for a long duration of time because of injuries.
Though the moon is their source of power and their connection the their wolf DNA, events such as the new moon and lunar eclipses weaken them. During this time they are not as strong, fast, nor as great at healing. They are susceptible to dying from injuries and often find themselves very sleepy and not really active during this time. The lunar eclipse only affects them as long as the moon is covered and the amount it does depends on how much of an eclipse occurs. However, the new moon can effect them anywhere from 2-3 days before the event until the 2-3 days after the new moon has occurred.
Toxins
If the werewolf comes in contact with any of these toxins they need to seek medical attention as soon as possible.
Wolfsbane normally found as a flowering plant that grows in the forestry of the mountain ranges of Silvius. It is a very pretty dark purple flower that when it blooms has many flowers on a single stem. The plant can be taken and grounded up into a white powder or a clear liquid. A few drops of this liquid in a normal 20 oz drink can cause miscarriages, vomiting, fever, and even the start of organ shut down in an adult werewolf. Anymore than five drops can cause a coma, death like appearance, or even death of the unfortunate werewolf while it'd take only 1.0 grams of the powered form to accomplish this same effect. While there are rumors that just touching the plant can harm the werewolf, these are untrue. The pores of the skin on the werewolf have to be open and the pollen has to get into the pore to cause the legendary burning that some werewolf hunters have described when touching the plant to the werewolf's bareskin. Now the packs' locations have made some more tolerant of this plant than others which become evident in the native wolves, while rogues and newly bittens suffered the consequences more harshly.
Silver of any form-liquid, metal, or gas-can be deadly to a werewolf. They are highly allergic to the substance, but they only react if it gets into their bloodstream. It's not the typical allergic reaction that is often described. Just touching the metal does not affect them. They can hold silver, and eat with it just like any human. If it is liquid silver, or a compound containing silver the concentration will affect the severity of the symptoms from asthma like to closing up their airways and potentially causing them to go into cardiac arrest. If a silver blade is stabbed into them the blood in their body will react with the silver as if they had drink the compound causing the same symptoms with the level depending on how long the silver stays in them. Now as a gas, silver will cause the werewolf to cough up blood, and slowly choke on their own blood. This is the hardest form to treat if exposed to for a long time and often the most deadly. Most werewolves can only last three to five minutes max inhaling large concentrations of silver. Low concentrations can be inhaled for days and have less severe effects, but will draw the death out slowly. Silver can also cause the werewolf to age if not treated properly as it kills them.
While silver is the most known metal used by hunters against the werewolves, it's not the only metal that affect them. Most metals can and do affect them with the levels varying just as much as the type of metal. Some metals are more deadly than silver, some just are irritable and this can vary between werewolves.
